FRIDAY THOUGHTS #103: ADDICTION
Addiction.
Everyone is on their own path and their own journey. The easiest thing to do is judge someone for where they are, the best thing to do is to simply love them for where they are. Plant your seeds and keep moving along on your purpose. That's it. You have enough to keep you busy focusing on yourself.
We all have or have had an addiction. As bad as we want to help someone stop making a life decision that is negatively impacting their life - we can't, nor should we have the audacity to believe that we alone can do that. That person will change when they make up their mind to change, not a moment sooner. The best way to influence anyone is to live the life that you preach, trust me...they are watching.
I've had a few situations in my life where I was happy to be of assistance to someone who wanted to make a certain change in their life: family and friend. I was thankful for the opportunity to encourage them along their journey, however, you can't push people to grow at a rate their not ready for...as frustrating as it can be to watch someone fall victim to a struggle over and over again, it is their journey alone. I've recently was able to get over my addiction to porn, it's a liberating feeling...if I knew what I know now I would've done it years ago. This just happened to be my journey.
It's not our responsibility to change anyone - we can't stand those people anyway lol so let's not be that to others. I'm not here to police anyone, I'm simply here to support people and live my life the way I feel I should, that's all. If you're currently trying to change a loved one, please stop - let them live, you've planted your seed, let it be. If you're in relationship and you're hoping something about them changes - get out of the relationship and find someone who has what you need.
Life is short, but life is beautiful. It's beautiful when we live being obedient to what we know we should do...yes, then it becomes very beautiful.
Addiction is a killer: drugs, liquor, food, porn, attention, etc. Overcoming the addictions of life is the path to becoming happy and free. Transcend your addictions and show others how you did it. Your testimony and how you live your life will be more of an encouragement to people than you even know. Keep doing the inner/outer work, you will transcend every "addiction" of life and encourage others to do the same. I see you champions, you're just getting started #keepgoing
